2012 Domaine Jean Vesselle Bouzy Rouge Coteaux Champenoise

For nearly 300 years, the Vesselle family has been cultivating some of Bouzy's best-placed Pinot Noir vines in the chalky soils of the Montagne de Reims. This Coteaux Champenois is a still red wine from the Champagne region, essentially the 'vin clair' of the estate's Pinot Noir-based Champagnes. Historically, red Bouzy was a high-quality wine that graced the tables of French royalty in the 17th century, predating the village's Champagne production. At the time, the Bouzy winegrowers did not produce any Champagne. Pure Pinot Noir expressing the terroir of Champagne's chalky soils without the bubbles.
