2017 Muchada Leclapart Lumiere

Lumière Blanco is the flagship wine of Muchada-Léclapart, produced exclusively from old Palomino vines—reported as 60‐ to 65‐year‐old—grown in the La Platera vineyard at Pago Miraflores. The wine is vinified with minimal intervention, employing spontaneous fermentation in used Bordeaux barrels and maturation on its lees. It undergoes barrel aging in French oak, with reported maturation periods ranging from 9 to 14 months in both standard and large‐format barrels—a deliberate departure from traditional fortified Jerez methods. Bottled at 12.5% alcohol, the wine is intended for optimal consumption between 2019 and 2025.

Farming

Biodynamic and Organic practices with an ecological approach are used, incorporating minimal intervention measures such as careful pruning and the avoidance of herbicides and pesticides. Soil management features surface work and green roofs, while vines are hand tended—with assistance from horses—and are harvested manually in the morning.

Harvest

Grapes—including whole clusters from 60-year‐old Palomino vines—are used.

Fermentation

Wild, spontaneous fermentation is employed (with direct pressing and minimal sulphite additions, around 5 ppm), conducted in used Bordeaux barrels (including those from 2013 and French Bordeaux barrels) without rectification; a low-intensity bentonite rinse (from 2018) is applied as needed.

Aging

Extended lees contact is maintained for 9–10 months in barrel (or oak) environments, with no filtering, cold stabilization, fining, or further adjustments.
