2018 Bordiga Vermouth Riserva Excelsior

Bordiga Vermouth di Torino is a fortified vermouth produced by Bordiga, one of the oldest distilleries in Piedmont, Italy, whose heritage dates back to 1888. It is crafted using traditional methods that emphasize terroir and regional winemaking practices. The formulation employs a high-quality base wine blended with 30% organic Barolo from the Langa region, aged in oak barrels for three years, together with aromatic white Moscato and white Trebbiano. The wine is then infused with a secret blend of botanicals—including alpine-sourced herbs and spices as well as locally cultivated artemisia mutellina—and additional ingredients such as wormwood, dittany, elderflower, chinchona bark, quassia bark, orange peel, gentiana lutea root, anise, Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar, and Gentiana Acaulis flowers. Produced in limited quantities to preserve artisanal craftsmanship and regional traditions from Piedmont and the Occitan valleys, this vegan vermouth is completed as an 18% ABV fortified wine.

Farming

Organic practices include wild foraging of herbs (wormwood, elderflower, gentians) and local cultivation of artemisia mutellina (genepy).

Harvest

Wine bases are prepared using Moscato d'Asti and Nebbiolo from the Conterno della Bussia cellar, with 30% aged Barolo (matured in large barrels for three years) incorporated as part of the blend.
Fermentation and Maceration: A traditional 40–50 day process is employed, during which traditional maceration techniques are used and a unique botanical mix—infused with herbs and spices—is added. The blend then undergoes a 15–20 day rest at approximately 10°C, with natural filtration via refrigeration and paper filters.

Aging

The wine is aged in oak barrels for three years.
