2018 Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny
Clos Rougeard is an esteemed cult producer in Saumur-Champigny near the village of Chacé in the Loire Valley, known for extremely limited releases of around 2,500 cases annually. The estate practices minimum intervention viticulture with low yields, organic farming without chemicals or pesticides, and natural winemaking processes. Le Bourg is produced from vines averaging 80 years old grown on a thin layer of clay over tuffeau limestone in Chacé, with deep clay subsoil. The terroir is predominantly limestone, imparting characteristic minerality to the wine. Le Bourg showcases elegant yet dense, full-bodied structure with firm tannins and strong aging potential, revealing riper, fleshier fruit.
