2019 Flavien Nowack Blanc de Blancs La Tuillerie

Domaine Nowack's La Tuilerie is a single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs Champagne from the 2019 vintage, the only such bottling at the estate. The vineyard is located in Vandières on the right bank of the Marne, featuring sandy limestone soils over marne bedrock just one meter below the surface. The vineyard is 60 years old. Flavien Nowack farms organically and biodynamically, vinifying with native yeasts in small oak barrels. The wine is unfined and unfiltered, with secondary fermentation under cork using grape must rather than liqueur for prise de mousse, resulting in lower pressure and a more vinous character. Dosage is 0.8-1.5 g/L, producing an Extra Brut style with over 40 months of lees aging. Flavien says that the Chardonnay in 2019 in particular was perfect.
