2019 L'Austral Saumur-Puy-Notre Dame V

Rooted in a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages—with early influences from the monks of Fontevraud Abbey—Saumur’s viticultural heritage is reflected in this distinctive wine. Produced from 100% Cabernet Franc sourced from the Les Vigneaux site (locally referred to as Breton in historical contexts), the cuvée parcellaire is a testament to both time‐honored and modern vineyard practices. Planted in 1990 and biodynamically nurtured for over two decades in the heart of Puy-Notre-Dame, Saumur, these vines underscore the region’s evolution, which has embraced both sparkling white and still red wine production. This final vintage of the Vigneaux cuvée—designated “V” and marking the conclusion of an era with the sale and renaming of the parcel—was crafted using a blend of half whole-bunch and half de-stemmed processing, followed by bottle aging for over 1.5 years and released without added sulphur.
