2019 Vignerons Les Matheny Arbois Blanc Chardonnay

This 2019 wine is a Jura Chardonnay produced from vineyards featuring old vines—including parcels with vines up to 45 years old—in both Arbois and Montigny-lès-Arsures. Sourced from a small domaine headed by Les Matheny as well as an experimental plot of hardy Chardonnay, the winemaking approach prominently employs oxidative techniques and extended lees aging to accentuate the regional terroir and autolytic character.

Farming

Organic farming is employed on a 3-hectare vineyard in Arbois, cultivated without synthetic chemicals.

Harvest

Grapes are carefully selected from designated parcels with minimal intervention.

Fermentation

Select vinification is practiced with only minute, occasional additions of sulfur to support the fruit’s natural evolution.

Aging

Two approaches are employed—a three-year élevage in barrels featuring a skilled, controlled oxidation process, and extended maturation in 600‑liter barrels for six years without topping up.
