2020 Chateau Yvonne Saumur Blanc
Château Yvonne’s 2020 Saumur Blanc is crafted exclusively from Chenin Blanc grapes sourced from its historic, organically and biodynamically managed 11‐hectare estate in the Loire Valley. The vineyards are planted on clay and limestone over tuffeau stone soils—with specific sites such as ‘Le Gory’ situated just 200 meters from the Loire River—where fruit is hand-harvested. In the cellar, a low-intervention approach is employed: grapes undergo native yeast fermentation at cool temperatures with spontaneous malolactic conversion, and the wine is aged using a combination of oak and steel. One style features 12 months in oak (with 20% new oak) followed by additional aging, while an alternative method calls for 15 months of maturation (12 months in oak and 3 months in steel). The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal added SO₂ and has a reported 13.9% ABV. Production remains limited, averaging approximately 2,000 cases annually, reflecting both the estate’s storied heritage and commitment to traditional winemaking techniques in the Loire region.
