2020 Domaine de la Touraize Arbois Chardonnay

This composite description encompasses white wines from the Jura region of eastern France that predominantly feature Chardonnay sourced from distinct vineyard sites and managed with varied production techniques. For instance, Domaine de la Touraize cultivates Chardonnay from parcels with contrasting terroirs—one vineyard is situated on limestone‐rich soils (the En Flandre parcel, where grapes are aged for two winters in used 600‐liter barrels that are kept topped‐up, bottled without fining or filtration, and finished with a controlled 20 milligrams per liter of sulfur), while another expression, known as “Ammonites,” comes from 0.8 hectares of Chardonnay planted between the early 1960s and the early 1980s in the gravelly marl vineyards of Curoulet and La Platière. The appellation “Ammonites” alludes to the fossilized cephalopod shells present in the region’s soils, which contribute to the distinctive terroir. In addition, another expression from Les Voisines is produced from four select parcels in Arbois, underscoring the diverse vineyard sources within the Jura. Complementing these vineyard details, certain winemaking practices include the use of well‐integrated oak treatments and, in one instance certified biodynamic production since 2020.
