2020 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano Branella Red

The Branella vineyard is a two-hectare plot planted in 1981 on varied soils including blue clay marls and a distinct sandy zone with lower pH. Starting with the 2020 vintage, winemaker Chiara De Iulis Pepe introduced this as one of two single-vineyard bottlings from Emidio Pepe's oldest plots: Casa Pepe and Branella. These two wines replace the previous old-vine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The sandy zone and geological variations contribute to the wine's distinctive terroir-driven character. 2020 marks the first release of the Branella bottling.
