Les Iles Feray VDF 2020 is an IGP Ardèche Syrah produced by Pierre Gonon at his benchmark estate in the Saint-Joseph appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. The wine is crafted exclusively from Syrah grapes that are hand‐harvested at optimal maturity and then aged for 10 months in full‐size barrels. The production reflects a traditional, terroir‐driven approach that emphasizes the intrinsic character of the vineyard without additional blending.

Farming

Grapes are cultivated organically using manual methods, including horse plowing on steep slopes, with very low yields.
 

Harvest

Grapes are manually foot‐crushed with partial destemming that allows for significant stem inclusion.
 

Fermentation

Fermentation occurs in large open oak vats using natural yeasts. The must is regularly pumped over and stirred twice daily, with periodic foot punch‐downs.
 

Aging

The flagship red Saint-Joseph is aged for 14–16 months in 600‐litre barrels without new oak, while Les Iles Feray undergoes 10 months of barrel aging in full-size barrels.
