2021 Ampeleia Alicante Nero
Alicante Nero, known in France as Grenache, in Sardinia as Cannonau, and in Spain as Garnacha, is produced as part of the Monovarietali project using grapes sourced exclusively from the single parcel Vigna della Pieve. This vineyard is established on sandy soils enriched with pebbles at an altitude of 250 meters, with yields controlled at 50 hl/ha. The winemaking process employs both carbonic fermentation and destemming techniques, and some expressions are aged in cement tanks for six months to preserve the wine’s freshness, with minimal sulphite use and, in certain cases, the wine is left unfiltered to emphasize its native character. Production is limited—with one red wine release capped at 6,000 bottles—and a rosato variant, produced by blending Alicante Nero with Carignan, is crafted annually in a run of 5,000 bottles, reflecting both the diverse terroir and the innovative approach to traditional Mediterranean varieties.
