2021 Anthill Farms Comptche Ridge Pinot Noir

The 2021 Pinot Noir Comptche Ridge originates from a remote vineyard located in a small natural clearing above the town of Comptche, just inland from the northern Mendocino County coast. Owned and managed by the Weir family, this site is dry-farmed on a complex mix of fine sandy-clayey Franciscan soils and is completely ringed by high redwoods and Douglas-fir. The vineyard is planted primarily to Swan clone, and this secluded Mendocino Coast location consistently produces wine of finessed structure and musky, mountainous, sensual appeal. The wine is powerful and expressive, with pure scents of wild berries, lavender, Earl Grey tea leaves and complex undertones of aniseed and iodine. The medium-bodied palate is impressively concentrated, velvety and energetic, and it boasts a very long, highly perfumed finish. The nose is serious, deep and inviting, with intense cherry, sage, wet soil, cinnamon and raw chocolate aromas throughout. The palate showcases a persistent complexity that lingers on and remains focused. With air, the aromas and flavors become even more detailed, the texture sweeter, giving a grand sense of the future.
