2021 Anthill Farms Peugh Vineyard Chardonnay

The 2021 Anthill Farms Peugh Vineyard Chardonnay is crafted from exceptionally old vines in the Russian River Valley, originally planted in 1887 and grafted to Chardonnay in 1944, making them among the oldest producing Chardonnay vines in California. This head-trained vineyard sits on the northwestern outskirts of Santa Rosa in faded brown Huichica loam soils, which provide low fertility and rapid drainage. The wine is pure and energetic with soft aromas of hazelnut, toasted meringue, iodine and Meyer lemon. The light-bodied palate balances tangy acidity with a creamy, mouth-coating texture and lemon-cream flavors, and it has a long, focused finish streaked with saline character.
