2021 Diego Conterno Barolo Comune di Monforte DOCG

Diego Conterno is a family-run estate in Monforte d'Alba, established in 2003 when Diego left Conterno-Fantino to return to a more traditional winemaking style. He and his son Stefano practice organic viticulture, crafting elegant Barolo that blends the power of Monforte with the translucence of traditional techniques. Nebbiolo is sourced from three estate vineyards—Bricco San Pietro, San Giovanni, and Ginestra—situated at altitudes of 900 to 1,020 feet on clay, sand, and limestone marl soils. The sites are vinified separately before blending, creating classically structured wines built for aging. This wine is a blend of fruit from plots within the larger Ginestra vineyard: Pajana facing east and Ciabot facing southeast, each vinified separately. The wine boasts a deeper ruby color with aromas of ripe cherries, plums, dried wildflowers, violets, menthol notes, orange peel, and warm spice. On the palate it reveals power, velvety texture, and well-structured tannins that are perfectly integrated, leaving a harmonious, long finish.
