2022 Abeles Pinot Gris

This 100% Szent György Hegy skin contact Pinot Gris is produced from grapes grown in rich, volcanic soils and nurtured by Imre’s vigilant vineyard practices, which extend ripening late into the season. Following harvest, the grapes are destemmed while retaining as many whole berries as possible to emphasize varietal character. The must then undergoes a 2‑week maceration period in open vats with daily hand mixing; by the 14th day, fermentation intensifies and transitions into malolactic conversion. The wine is gently pressed into a range of high micro‑oxygenation vessels—including fiber tanks, eggs, and barrels—and was bottled in April 2023. Notably, while other Abeles wines benefit from 12–24 months of aging, this wine completes its maturation with a 6‑month regimen, with the majority of aging taking place in bottle.
