2022 Domaine La Calmette Cahors Rouge Trespotz
Trespotz, named for the Occitan term for the village, is a Malbec-based wine with approximately 5% Merlot from the Cahors region. The 4 hectare vineyard features vines planted in 1977 and 1992 at 340m altitude across different terroirs including siderolithic iron-rich red clays and Kimmeridgian clay-limestone plateaux. The wine undergoes slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts, extended maceration of 15 to 30 days, and aging on fine lees in concrete vats, stainless steel tanks, and used barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur dioxide, it showcases the intense minerality and bristling energy characteristic of Kimmeridgian bedrock with the umami complexity from iron-rich soils.
