2022 Matthiasson Chardonnay Linda Vista

This Chardonnay is produced in Napa Valley using organically grown grapes from distinct sites including the Linda Vista Vineyard and the cool‐climate West Oak Knoll area. In some lots, grapes are cultivated on 35‐year‐old vines with low yields during a dry vintage. The harvest is divided into two phases (approximately 80% early and 20% later) to optimize fruit maturity and is aged in neutral French oak barrels, integrating subtle oak influence. Flavor notes include zesty Meyer lemon, ripe Golden Delicious apples, yellow peaches, musk melon, and honey, culminating in a clean finish with haunting minerality. Production techniques reflect modern California winemaking practices that emphasize precise expression of vineyard and terroir characteristics.

Farming

Organic and Sustainable farming practices incorporating Low Intervention techniques, cover cropping, and conscientious irrigation strategies.

Harvest

Grapes are sourced from two harvests (80% early, 20% later) and whole-cluster pressed.

Fermentation

Fermentation is conducted in French oak barrels (seasoned and neutral) without added yeast. Lees remain in contact (sur lies) with minimal battonage and without racking. Partial malolactic conversion occurs in 20–40% of barrels, while the remainder are sulphured after primary fermentation.

Aging

Barrel aging is performed in French oak barrels, maintaining lees contact to enhance structural complexity.
