2022 Muchada Leclapart Elixir

Un-fortified Moscatel from the Abulagar pago in Sherry, crafted from a 45-year-old vineyard planted on sandy soils by the Atlantic. Produced with little-to-no flor influence, departing from the region's traditional solera system for a site-specific approach. Wonderfully aromatic with sweet grapey fruit, floral notes of orange blossom and jasmine, tangerine and lemony notes. The palate is supple and fine with lovely texture, showing a rounded character and beautiful fruit. Beautifully saline and textured from its coastal terroir, with a clean finish. Medium-bodied, luminous and energetic with hints of ginger. Displays lovely purity and elegance. Unfiltered and unclarified.

Farming

Biodynamic viticulture since 2017. Minimal soil disturbance, only working the surface to avoid soil degradation. Very low yields of 7 tons/hectare (one-third of neighboring vineyards). Vineyards managed using sexual confusion techniques to avoid diseases. Clover planted to fix nitrogen and create biodiversity. Organic practices also employed.

Harvest

Hand-harvested early morning (6 am-10 am) in Champagne boxes, whole bunch pressing for 3.5 hours on Champagne cycle, gravity destemming for select lots, cold settled overnight

Fermentation

Spontaneous fermentation in 400 litre barrels, used Bordeaux barrels, stainless steel, or ceramic tanks depending on plot and style; fermented without flor influence, kept on lees without racking; traditional methods for Moscatel without fortification; minimal SO2 (3g/hl added during pressing)

Aging

15-16 months in 400 litre barrels for primary lots, 11 months in used Bordeaux barrels with all lees for other lots, one year in 12-year-old oak; unfiltered, unclarified, non-interventionist approach with no batonnage or fining, minimal sulfur dioxide used
