2023 Agnanum Bianco Falanghina Sabbia Vulcanica

Falanghina from Campania, Italy is cultivated from single-varietal vineyards established on volcanic soils. In some instances, 100‐year-old vines are planted within the Astroni National Park above Naples, while other expressions originate from terraced sites in Campi Flegrei—an area with a layered geological composition of volcanic ash, sand, sandy basalt, and basalt subsoil, some dating back to Roman times with vines between 60 and 200 years old. Influenced by constant Tyrrhenian winds, these unique terroirs support traditional viticultural practices and highlight the challenges of mechanization on steep, historic vineyard sites. Notably, the Falanghina Campania Sabbia Vulcanica IGT by Agnanum exemplifies how volcanic sand soils and the region’s long-established vineyard heritage are integrated into the winemaking process.
