2023 Alexis Hudon La Charge Pet-Nat Sparkling

La Charge Pet Nat is produced using organic grapes sourced from four distinct parcels in Saint-Aignan, Touraine. The blend comprises Menu Pineau from two parcels (60‐year-old vines), a 50/50 mixture of Chenin Blanc and Menu Pineau from 40‐year-old vines, and Sauvignon Blanc from a 60‐year-old parcel. The grapes are direct pressed for four hours and then blended; fermentation begins in a fiberglass tank before being cold‐shocked to achieve 15g/L residual sugar. Following approximately six months of maturation sur lattes, the wine is bottled with minimal sulfites added. Although its provenance is in the Touraine AOP region, it is declassified as Vin de France to avoid certain administrative and AOP regulations, and it is crafted by Alexis Hudon using natural winemaking techniques.

Geography

Country: France

Farming

Organic grape sourcing from local growers in Touraine (80% from Saint-Aignan and 20% from Montlouis-sur-Loire); certified organic, vegan, and biodynamic; no sulfites added; produced as Petillant Naturel.

Harvest

Grapes are hand harvested where applicable and immediately direct pressed—typically for 4 hours—to preserve their character with minimal intervention.

Fermentation

Varietals are blended after pressing and fermented in fiberglass tanks, with natural winemaking practices that employ either no sulfur or minimal sulfiting (applied at bottling in some cases, including vinification in Bourges). A cold shock treatment is applied before bottling (one process targeting 15g/L RS).

Aging

The wine undergoes 6 months of maturation sur lattes (in bottles or on the lees) without filtration or fining.
