2023 Cantina Massara Verduno Pelaverga
Verduno Pelaverga DOC is a relatively new appellation established in 1995, located within Barolo's Verduno commune in northern Italy. The wine is made exclusively from Pelaverga, a pink-skinned autochthonous grape variety that thrives in the region's chalky soils but is difficult to find outside Italy. Cantina Massara, with roots dating to the 1850s when Giovan Battista Burlotto began producing wines in Verduno, crafts this wine through eight days of skin contact in stainless-steel tanks under controlled temperatures, followed by delicate pump-overs and aging in stainless steel. The result is a light red wine, almost dark rosé in color with clear garnet hues, characterized by white pepper spiciness and mineral complexity.
