2023 Grosjean Pinot Noir

This 100% Pinot Noir hails from Italy’s Valle d’Aosta region, where the variety has been cultivated since the Middle Ages under historical Burgundian influence. The vineyards, situated on high-altitude (600–750 m) steep slopes, express distinct alpine terroir. The wine is crafted from vines comprising 70% French clones and 30% of the rare Wadenzwil cultivar, with production techniques that include biodynamic practices.

Farming

Organic and sustainable practices are employed, including biodynamic certification. Vines are grown following biologically based methods with limited use of sulfur and copper, and fertilizations using manure.

Harvest

Grapes consist of approximately 70% destemmed and 30% whole-cluster.

Fermentation

Maceration with skins occurs for 8–10 days at 28–30°C with three punch-downs per day. In wood casks, daily punch-downs are applied for three days, followed by a 10–12 day settling period. Fermentation proceeds in both stainless steel tanks and wood casks under temperature-controlled conditions.

Aging

Maturation is split equally between wooden vessels (oak/wood casks) and stainless steel vats, followed by 2–3 months of bottle aging.
