2023 Herve Souhaut Cessieux Syrah
Hervé Souhaut's Clos des Cessieux is a Saint-Joseph Syrah from a historic, south-facing vineyard with granite and schist soils in the Northern Rhône. The vines, planted 25 years ago from clonal selection on a parcel originally owned by Béatrice's grandfather, have been farmed organically since Hervé reclaimed them in 2013. The rocky terrain naturally shed residual chemicals from prior conventional management. Crafted using whole-cluster fermentation, semi-carbonic maceration, native yeast, and aging in neutral oak barrels, this unfiltered wine showcases minimal sulfite intervention. The result is a precise, elegant expression of terroir with vibrant acidity and silky tannins, approachable upon release yet ageworthy.
