2023 Jean-Baptiste Souillard Syrah

An elegant Saint-Joseph from Jean-Baptiste's three small parcels in Sarras, Andance, and Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf, planted in the early 1970s and 2000s at elevations between 250 and 300 meters on east-facing granite slopes. The winemaker prioritizes freshness by selecting vineyard sites at the top of slopes on granite soils. This Syrah undergoes primarily whole-bunch vinification in stainless steel tanks to emphasize freshness and purity of expression, followed by aging in used oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered at 12.5% ABV, showcasing Syrah in a distinctly Northern Rhône register with smoky minerality and finely woven tannins.
