2023 Matassa Rouge Tommy Ferriol VDF

Tommy Ferriol is a natural red wine from the Roussillon region of France, exclusively sourced from the Matassa vineyards and formerly known as Brutal Rouge. It is crafted predominantly from Syrah (70%) with a complement of Muscat Petit Grains (30%), using hand-harvested grapes from 30-year-old vines. After whole-cluster co-maceration for four days, the grapes undergo spontaneous co-fermentation before being pressed and racked into fiberglass aging vessels. Emphasizing biodynamic practices and minimal intervention, the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without additional SO₂—a method established by winemaker Tom Lubbe after revitalizing a Coteaux du Fenouillèdes vineyard in 2001. The recent renaming to Tommy Ferriol also marks the milestone of the 20th vintage of Domaine Matassa.
