2023 Occhipinti Frappato Terre Siciliane

Frappato 2023 di Arianna Occhipinti is a monovarietal red wine produced exclusively from Frappato grapes grown in 40‑year‑old, organic and biodynamic vineyards located in Vittoria on the southern slopes of the Monti Iblei, within the Terre Siciliane IGT. The harvest, completed between September and October, is followed by fermentation using indigenous yeasts and a 15‑day maceration period. Post‑fermentation, the wine is matured for 6 months in cement tanks and 30 days in glass vessels, with some profiles also incorporating wood‑aging techniques. This production process, rooted in traditional peasant practices, reflects the distinctive terroir and Mediterranean character of southeastern Sicily.

Farming

Organic and biodynamic viticulture is practiced using natural methods and agricoltura ragionata principles under Triple A and Biologico certifications. Vineyards are cultivated without phytochemicals or chemical fertilizers, with manual, hand-harvesting applied in 40-year-old plots on medium-consistency, sandy, calcareous soils from sub-Apennine areas.

Production

Hand-harvested grapes undergo a 15-day skin maceration in cement tanks using indigenous yeasts. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 6 months in cement tanks and 30 days in glass vessels. Some profiles also incorporate wood-aging techniques when applicable.
