2024 La Staffa Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico
Verdicchio grown organically in limestone-rich soil at 400 meters above sea level in the Castelli di Jesi appellation. The high-elevation vineyards, ranging from 12-50 years old, are individually hand-harvested and vinified to preserve the grape's distinctive acidity and mineral character. This example showcases one of Italy's greatest native white grape varieties, with the altitude contributing to the wine's characteristic fresh green-apple intensity and terroir-driven minerality. The limestone soils impart a crystalline quality and saline finish that distinguishes this Verdicchio from other examples in the region. On the nose there are crisp stone fruit and notes of clementines and almond flowers, with smoky flint, dried peaches, and white flowers. The wine is light and juicy, with tart white peaches, orange citrus, Bartlett pear, tart white nectarines, lemon zest with spring herbs and almonds, and a dry, mineral, salty-citrus finish.
