2024 Margarethenhof Riesling Schiefermineral

A bone-dry Riesling from the renowned Ayl vineyards in Germany's Mosel region, grown on characteristic slate soils (Schiefer) that impart distinctive minerality. The 2024 vintage faced exceptional challenges from two spring frosts during the Ice Saints that significantly decimated the harvest. Only carefully selected grapes that absorbed the full strength of the vines were hand-picked and gently pressed by foot, with partial overnight skin contact. Fermentation was spontaneous in traditional old Mosel oak barrels (Moselfuder), creating clear structure, freshness, and precise minerality. The wine is bone-dry with 1-2 g residual sugar and 11.5% alcohol content.
