2024 Matassa VDF Blanc Cuvée Marguerite

Matassa produces a natural white wine in the south of France from a blend of Macabeu, Muscat d’Alexandrie, and Muscat Petit Grain sourced from three distinct vineyard parcels. The 50‑year‑old vines are cultivated on mixed‑exposure terroirs. In the cellar, whole‑cluster maceration is employed, with the grapes co‑fermented in concrete tanks before being racked into 2500L foudres to age on the lees. The wine is crafted using a chemical‑free, holistic approach and is released unfined, unfiltered, and with no added SO₂ under the Vin de France appellation.

Geography

Farming

Certified Organic; No Added Sulfur; chemical-free and holistic; natural. Grapes are hand-harvested early in the morning into small 12 kg crates, and yield is limited to 18 hectoliters per hectare. Vineyard soils are composed of slate and marl, surrounded by scrub and garrigue.

Harvest

Grapes are processed using wholecluster maceration or whole bunch pressing, consistent with natural winemaking practices as practiced at Matassa.

Fermentation

Fermentation occurs via cofermentation in concrete vessels or through spontaneous fermentation in used 500‑liter barrels, with subsequent malolactic fermentation.

Aging

After fermentation, the wine is racked to 2500L foudres (or aged for one year in barrels) to mature on lees.
Final processing is unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfurization and no added SO₂.
