2024 Mortellito ‘Niuru’ Frappato Rosso Terre Siciliane

Cala Niuru is a blend of 75% Frappato and 25% Nero d'Avola from organically farmed vineyards in Val di Noto, Sicily. The vines, ranging from 5 to 10 years old, grow in limestone-rich soils in a region sharing latitudes with North Africa's arid desert climate, just kilometers from the coast. Ancient olive and almond trees surround the vineyards, breaking the wind off the Ionian Sea. After 15-20 days of fermentation, the wine is aged for 6 months in stainless steel. The limestone terroir imparts a distinctive minerality and salinity that evokes the nearby sea, with a cool, salt-dusted finish characteristic of the best vintages. On the nose, it offers notes of pomegranate, ash, and subtle herbal aromas. The wine is crisp and vibrant, light-bodied and refreshing, making it perfect for pairing with seafood or light dishes.
