2024 Peter Lauer Riesling Senior
Named after Florian Lauer's grandfather Peter Lauer, who was renowned in the 1950s for his dry Riesling style, this off-dry, feinherb-style wine honors traditional Saar winemaking. Sourced from the western-most, coolest parcels of the iconic Ayler Kupp vineyard, the wine is harvested from over 70-year-old ungrafted vines on slate slopes. Legally classified as Trocken with approximately 8-10 grams residual sugar, it represents old-school Saar dry-tasting wines that balance ferocious acidity with subtle residual sugar. The wine ferments to a near-dry profile with textural complexity and mineral precision, bridging preferences between dry-wine and fruit-wine enthusiasts. This vineyard site sits farthest from the moderating influence of the Saar River, contributing to its distinctive character.
