2024 Villa Dora Caprettone

Made exclusively from Caprettone, a native Campanian variety only recognized as distinct from Coda di Volpe in 2014. Villa Dora farms certified-organic, 70-year-old ungrafted vines on the southern slopes of Mount Vesuvius at Terzigno, inside the national park, at 250-300 meters elevation. The vines grow in pulverized pumice, ash, and lapilli from volcanic eruptions, where phylloxera cannot survive, allowing traditional pergola-trained vines to remain on their own roots. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on fine lees for 5-6 months with no oak influence, expressing the pure volcanic character of the territory with struck-flint minerality and saline finish. The wine displays a bright yellow color with golden reflections and a fresh aromatic bouquet with notes of ripe yellow fruit, white flowers, and chamomile.

Farming

Certified Organic. Organically farmed vineyards on volcanic terrain (pulverized pumice, ash and lapilli) on the lower southern slopes of Mount Vesuvius. Ungrafted vines on own roots, trained to traditional Vesuvian pergola. Volcanic pumice soil is inhospitable to Phylloxera, allowing vines to remain ungrafted.

Harvest

Fruit pressed after about one hour of maceration

Fermentation

Fermented in stainless steel tanks at reduced temperature until dry; no oak

Aging

Aged on fine lees for at least 5-6 months; normally stays in tank for about 12 months before bottling, then 5 months in bottle
